
Statistics Canada reported international tourism set a new record during Canada 150 last year, with almost 21 million trips of one or more nights. The previous record was set in 2002, with just over 20 million tourist trips.
The Canadian statistics agency says the number of overseas visitors set a record at 6.5 million visitors, up 7.2 percent from 2016, and the number of United States tourists increased 3.1 percent to reach 14.3 million.
The report states year-over-year increases in travel from all continents increased, with the highest increase being from the region of North America, up 26.1% from 2016. Besides the United States, Brazil and Mexico were the most substantial sources of tourists from The Americas.
