The Toronto Zoo’s four pandas are heading to the Calgary Zoo for the next five years.

The pandas are part of the Global Giant Panda Conservation Breeding Program and were loaned to Canada for 10 years from China. This will be the first time the Calgary Zoo has had pandas since 1988.

The Calgary Zoo has been preparing for the arrival of the pandas with $100 million in upgrades, including a transformation of the old elephant habitat into a new area for the bears. The new area will be known as Panda Passage, with some beautiful touches of Chinese architecture.

The Panda Passage area will be open to the public on May 7th, which will give the four bears enough time to get comfortable in their new habitat.
